We have had quite a bit of excitement over the last few weeks, some good some bad. I'll start chronilogically with the bad and end with the good. Several weeks ago, Brooks woke up with a fever. I had to go to work for an awards ceremony for something I won at work (not a huge deal I just reported a mislabel on a potassium bolus so it never affected a patient). So I brought brooks with me and mom watched him in her office. I got out an hour later and his fever was up a little more (101.6) so I decided to take him to the pediatrician since he had been on Augmentin for 2 days for an ear infection (our 4th since he was 8 months old). So we had an appt at 11. We got there early and got checked in and were waiting to be called back and all of a sudden, Brooks started seizing in my arms. I completely lost it and ran up to the desk yelling "my baby is having a seizure!!" they ran me in the back and grabbed one of my doctor friends out of a patient room and we brought him into an exam room. He was still seizing and I was an emotional wreck. I have never felt more helpless. Of course as nurse, I've seen seizures but never a baby and of course never my own child!! We timed the seizure, they stripped him down and took his rectal temp which had shot up to 104.6. I was so petrified that he was really sick and could have meningitis. So, the doctors and nurses were so great and they just stayed with me and comforted me and gave Brooks some ibuprofen. He was pretty listless and lethargic and out of it. They called Trey and my mom who rushed to meet us. They ended up called EMS to escort us to the Children's hospital in Memphis, where we proceeded to go through the standard protocol battery of tests. He had to have a cathether to get a urine sample. He had chest xrays, blood cultures, IV fluids (so he was stuck for an IV), and the most traumatic a lumbar puncture (spinal tap). All the tests were negative so they just ruled it a fever virus and sent us home. We were relieved and scared, but so thankful it wasn't anything serious. It was just such an emotional taxing day. The doctor told us he probably would never do this again, but there is a 1 in 3 chance he could. Were praying for the latter!! We were just so happy he came back around and by the next day was walking around playing and getting into trouble like normal!
Just got his IV and waiting on the lumbar puncture and chest xray
Sweet little sick puppy :(
And several hours later... Fever, what fever??! I feel fine! (thanks for scaring us to death Brooks!)
Now, on to lighter news!
A couple of weekends ago we celebrated Brooksie's first birthday. It was a western themed affair and turned out a total success. We had a ton of decor left over from mine and Trey's rehearsal dinner 6 years ago so we used quite a bit of that!
Happy Birthday my sweet little cowboy Brooks!! Invites, courtesy of Etsy:
Mom, Joan and I handled all the food and punch- Joan made 'Cactus Juice' (lime sherbert and sprite soo yummy!!) We had 'ranch hand sliders', 'campfire s'more cups', and 'cowboy cavier dips' to name a few! Many of the recipes were courtesy of Pinterest! Also, the cupcake holders and banners, photo props, etc were purchased from Etsy (one of my favorite websites!!)
Mom made all the cupcakes (4 different flavors!) and they were delicious!!
To go napsacks with treats for the lil cowpokes! Happy Trails!
The guests had a blast with our western style "wanted" poster complete with props! It was truly a hit!
My great uncle (86 years old) "Unk" made it down
TJ is so tall he didn't quite fit in the wanted poster :)
That's better!
Unk even got in on the action!
First cake experience :)
Happy birthday to my sweet and precious boy Brooks a letter from your mommy:
Brooks, when you came into this world we had no idea whether you would be a girl or a boy. It was on your birthday that we discovered we were blessed with another boy. Everyday since you have kept us on our toes! You are definitely going to be a strong person, I can tell now. You have been an early crawler at 6 months, an early cruiser at 7 months and an early walker at 10 months. You are so smart and that little toothy sneaky smile gets me every time! I know you are going to be funny like your brother and you love to play with your daddy at night on the bed jumping around and falling down giggling! I can already see how close you and Camden are going to be and how many squabbles you will get in as you get older. The two of you will be partners in crime and I will have to stay very on top of things to keep you guys out of trouble :) I love how you communicate with us and using your newest words "Na Na (banana), "tank too" (thank you),"nene nee nee" (somehow means food or bottle/sippy). You have not been the best sleeper and keep your dad and I up many nights but have been doing much better since your 11 month birthday. You love your dog Wrigley. I especially love how you pat her on the back and lay your head on her and yell "Daw!" (dog) when you see her! You are the strongest kid I've ever seen. Trying to change your diaper or clothes is like competing in a wrestling match! You have flip moves that would challenge the best wrestler on earth! You are the most active person ever. I rarely see you sitting still and taking a nap is usually just a short cat nap. I have a feeling you are going to be one of those rare people who requires very little sleep and is always extremely productive! I love how good an eater you are, you favorite foods are chicken 'n dumplings, mac n' cheese, bananas, crackers, mandarin oranges, bread, cheese, beans and of course milk (formula). You have made our lives so wonderful and you have given us so many moments of joy. Thank you Brooks for choosing us to be your parents and Thank you Jesus for giving him to us!
